This artwork by Chen Xianzhang achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in June 2015. In the Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy auction, the work Calligraphy in Cursive Script sold for HKD 2,440,000.00 (€ 282,194.73) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 1,000,000.00. This high result makes Calligraphy in Cursive Script the most expensive artwork by Chen Xianzhang that we have observed at auctions so far.
