Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Portrait of James W. DePeyster by Charles Willson Peale was sold in the Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction at Christies in New York in December 2008. Here, the upper estimate of USD 100,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 104,500.00 (€ 75,077.23). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Willson Peale achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington at Princeton in January 2006 with an auction result of USD 21,296,000.00 (€ 17,516,038.82).
