Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In September 2014 Christies in New York held the auction American Furniture, Outsider and Folk Art, which included the work Portrait of a Gentleman, possibly Judge John Berrien by Charles Willson Peale. Here, the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 52,500.00 (€ 41,574.28). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Willson Peale achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington at Princeton in January 2006 with an auction result of USD 21,296,000.00 (€ 17,516,038.82).
