In May 2004 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work George Washington by Charles Willson Peale. The »bidding war« ended at USD 6,167,500.00 (€ 5,048,293.36), 54% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Willson Peale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work George Washington at Princeton, which sold at auction in January 2006 for USD 21,296,000.00 (€ 17,516,038.82).

Im Mai 2004 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit George Washington von Charles Willson Peale zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 6.167.500,00 (€ 5.048.293,36) und damit 54% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Charles Willson Peale mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit George Washington at Princeton beobachtet, die im Januar 2006 für USD 21.296.000,00 (€ 17.516.038,82) versteigert wurde.
