In January 2017 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master Prints, which included the work San Francisco by Charles Meryon. The result of USD 3,000.00 (€ 2,779.32) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Meryon - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work La Morgue (D., W. 36; S. 42), which sold at auction in March 2006 for GBP 4,560.00 (€ 6,533.66).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im Januar 2017 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit San Francisco von Charles Meryon zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 3.000,00 (€ 2.779,32) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Charles Meryon mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit La Morgue (D., W. 36; S. 42) beobachtet, die im März 2006 für GBP 4.560,00 (€ 6.533,66) versteigert wurde.
