Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Group of five Etchings by Charles Meryon was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,375.00 (€ 1,531.87). Admittedly, works by Charles Meryon have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work La Morgue (D., W. 36; S. 42) in March 2006 with an auction result of GBP 4,560.00 (€ 6,533.66).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Group of five Etchings von Charles Meryon im Dezember 2018 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.375,00 (€ 1.531,87) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Charles Meryon auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit La Morgue (D., W. 36; S. 42) im März 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.560,00 (€ 6.533,66).
