This artwork by Charles Jones, R.C.A. achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2001. In the BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PAINTINGS, INCLUDING SCOTTISH PICTURES auction, the work Sheep grazing in a coastal landscape; and Sheep grazing with a cottage beyond sold for GBP 7,637.50 (€ 12,323.87) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Charles Jones, R.C.A.; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Sheep resting on a tree-lined path sold at auction in March 2012 with the realized price of GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,985.19).
