Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Charles James Folkard could be acquired at Christies in London in March 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British and Continental Watercolours auction, the work A Scene From The 'Merchant of Venice'; On The Quayside changed hands for GBP 360.00 (€ 515.82) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Admittedly, works by Charles James Folkard have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Illustrations to Richard Harris Barham's Jackdaw of Rheims: All a-whisper; Bearing gifts; In a hurry; and An uncomfortable shoe (two illustrated) in December 2005 with an auction result of GBP 2,640.00 (€ 3,831.81).
