Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Queen of Hearts | She made some tarts by Charles James Folkard was sold in the Original Illustration Art from the Collections of Kendra and Allan Daniel auction at Sothebys in New York in April 2011. The price achieved of USD 2,375.00 (€ 1,602.46) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles James Folkard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Illustrations to Richard Harris Barham's Jackdaw of Rheims: All a-whisper; Bearing gifts; In a hurry; and An uncomfortable shoe (two illustrated), which sold at auction in December 2005 for GBP 2,640.00 (€ 3,831.81).
