In October 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work The Flute Player by Charles Baxter for USD 14,340.00 (€ 11,250.59). This price was achieved in the auction 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN ART at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 18,000.00 – 25,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, The Flute Player is the most expensive artwork by Charles Baxter that we have observed at auction so far.
