Upper estimate price exceeded by 94 %.
This artwork by Carle van Loo achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2016. In the Master Paintings & 19th Century European Art auction, the work Belisarius Begging At The Gates Of Rome sold for USD 17,500.00 (€ 16,155.83) - well above the upper estimate of USD 9,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carle van Loo achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Venus requesting Vulcan to make arms for Aeneas in January 2000 with an auction result of USD 277,500.00 (€ 284,411.19).
