In July 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work Saint John the Evangelist disputing the Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception with Saints Gregory, Augustine and John Chrysostom by Carlo Maratti. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 209,000.00 (€ 233,211.91), 74% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Carlo Maratti have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Tobias and the Angel in January 2001 with an auction result of USD 1,216,000.00 (€ 1,306,403.09).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 74 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2017 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours durch, in der auch die Arbeit Saint John the Evangelist disputing the Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception with Saints Gregory, Augustine and John Chrysostom von Carlo Maratti zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 209.000,00 (€ 233.211,91) und damit 74% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Carlo Maratti auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Tobias and the Angel im Januar 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.216.000,00 (€ 1.306.403,09).
