Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When this work without title by Carel Balth was auctioned at Sothebys in Amsterdam in April 2011, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 1,200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at EUR 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Carel Balth; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot without title sold at auction in April 2011 with the realized price of EUR 6,000.00.
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit ohne Titel von Carel Balth im April 2011 bei Sothebys in Amsterdam versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – EUR 1.200,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit EUR 5.000,00 mehr als viermal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Carel Balth; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit ohne Titel im April 2011 mit dem Hammerpreis von EUR 6.000,00.
