In the Maritime Pictures auction, the work Beached coasters at low tide sold for GBP 1,135.25 (€ 1,703.29) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 600.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter William May - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Perilous Situation of H.M.S.V. Intrepid In Baffins Bay - August 2. 1851.; And H.M.S.V. Intrepid Marooned On An Iceberg, which sold at auction in September 2004 for GBP 2,868.00 (€ 4,178.31).
