Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2018 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Day Sale, which included the work Portrait of a man, identified as Wijnand van Diest, half-length by Bartholomeus van der Helst. The price achieved of GBP 50,000.00 (€ 55,704.43) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Bartholomeus van der Helst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sophia Coymans (1636-1714), three-quarter-length, holding a twig with an orange, before a landscape in July this year with an auction result of GBP 504,000.00 (€ 588,015.25).
