Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Bartholomeus van der Helst could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January 2018 for an unexpectedly low price. In the The Otto Naumann Sale auction, the work Portrait Of A Lady, Probably Hester Du Pire, Seated Before A Balustrade, Holding A Fan, With A View Out To The Sea Beyond changed hands for USD 175,000.00 (€ 140,811.07) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. Admittedly, works by Bartholomeus van der Helst have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Sophia Coymans (1636-1714), three-quarter-length, holding a twig with an orange, before a landscape in July this year with an auction result of GBP 504,000.00 (€ 588,015.25).
