This artwork by Bartolomeo Pinelli achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in February 2024. In the Old Master & British Drawings auction, the work A carnival scene in Rome around Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s Triton fountain, Piazza Barberini sold for USD 20,160.00 (€ 17,619.30) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Bartolomeo Pinelli - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Marcus Furius Camillus liberating Rome from the Gauls (recto); A compositional study of the same subject (verso), which sold at auction in July 2011 for GBP 55,250.00 (€ 63,407.64).
