Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A barn interior with a woman and children peeling onions, earthenware pots, carrots, onions and a cabbage nearby by Bartholomeus Molenaer was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,400.00 (€ 3,552.35). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Bartholomeus Molenaer - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Classroom Interior, which sold at auction in May 2009 for EUR 11,250.00.
