BAREND CORNELIS KOEKKOEK (DUTCH, 1803-1862) A Wooded Landscape with Travelers Passing a Chapel near a Stream signed and dated 'BC Koekkoek ft/1854' (lower center); inscribed, dated, and signed 'Deze Schilderij, voorstellende:/Een Boomrijk Landschap waar in/een Oude Kapel bij een Beek,/bij Namiddag Zon, is geschilderd/in het jaar 1854 door den/ondergetekende/B. C. Koekkoek.' (on a label on the reverse with the artist's seal) oil on panel 24 1 ⁄ 4 x 30 7 ⁄ 8 in. (61.6 x 78.2 cm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Wooded Landscape with Travelers Passing a Chapel near a Stream by Barend Cornelis Koekkoek was auctioned at Christies in New York in February this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 69,300.00 (€ 65,365.03). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Barend Cornelis Koekkoek achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Late afternoon with numerous skaters by a town in April 2006 with an auction result of EUR 1,412,000.00.
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Wooded Landscape with Travelers Passing a Chapel near a Stream von Barend Cornelis Koekkoek im Februar diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 80.000,00 – 120.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 69.300,00 (€ 65.365,03) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Barend Cornelis Koekkoek erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Late afternoon with numerous skaters by a town im April 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 1.412.000,00.
