Gelatin silver print, printed posthumously in 1996; the photographer's 'Aug. Sander Köln–Lindenthal' blindstamp on the image, signed and dated by Gerd Sander, the photographer's grandson, in pencil and the Archive stamp, with numerical notations and edition '1' of 12 in ink, on the reverse, tipped to a thin cardstock mount, the Archive stamp with numerical notations and edition '1' of 12 in ink, and an 'August Sander, Menschen des Zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts' label on the reverse.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Handlanger (Bricklayer) by August Sander was sold in the Photographs auction at Bonhams in London in October this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 6,144.00 (€ 5,813.78) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by August Sander achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Porträts aus „Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts“. in November 2019 with an auction result of EUR 949,000.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Handlanger (Bricklayer) von August Sander wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Auktion Photographs bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 6.144,00 (€ 5.813,78) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von August Sander erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Porträts aus „Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts“. im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 949.000,00.
