Gelatin silver print, printed posthumously in 1976; the photographer's 'Aug. Sander Köln–Lindenthal' blindstamp on the image, signed and dated by Gunther Sander, the photographer's son, in pencil on the reverse, tipped to a thin paper mount, the photographer's 'August Sander, Menschen des 20 Jahrhunderts' stamp, with numerical notations and date '1976' in ink, on the reverse.

Auction result well in line with expectations
In October this year Bonhams in London held the auction Photographs, which included the work Der Maler (The Painter - Anton Räderscheidt) by August Sander. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 4,480.00 (€ 4,239.21) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by August Sander achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Porträts aus „Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts“. in November 2019 with an auction result of EUR 949,000.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober diesen Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit Der Maler (The Painter - Anton Räderscheidt) von August Sander zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 4.480,00 (€ 4.239,21) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von August Sander erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Porträts aus „Menschen des 20. Jahrhunderts“. im November 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 949.000,00.
