Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Ary Scheffer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2021. In the Master Paintings Part II auction, the work Portrait of René, Cécile and Louise Franchomme sold for USD 23,940.00 (€ 19,728.06) - well above the upper estimate of USD 10,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ary Scheffer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait De George Washington, D'Après Gilbert Stuart in June 2010 with an auction result of EUR 265,000.00.
