Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Arthur Rackham achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2021. In the The Fantasy World of Arthur Rackham: Rare Original Illustrations from the Collection of Shirley Carter Burden auction, the work Original illustration for A Midsummer Night's Dream (Titania lying asleep), 1908 sold for GBP 47,880.00 (€ 57,110.80) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Arthur Rackham; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Andromeda sold at auction in September last year with the realized price of GBP 88,500.00 (€ 100,721.56).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Arthur Rackham erzielte im Dezember 2021 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion The Fantasy World of Arthur Rackham: Rare Original Illustrations from the Collection of Shirley Carter Burden wurde die Arbeit Original illustration for A Midsummer Night's Dream (Titania lying asleep), 1908 für GBP 47.880,00 (€ 57.110,80) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 20.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Arthur Rackham; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Andromeda im September letzten Jahres mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 88.500,00 (€ 100.721,56).
