This artwork by Arthur Murch achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Melbourne in November 2002. In the AUSTRALIAN, INTERNATIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS auction, the work Mother and Child sold for AUD 3,525.00 (€ 1,987.87) - well above the upper estimate of AUD 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Arthur Murch; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Australian Crouching Female Figure sold at auction in November 2009 with the realized price of AUD 6,300.00 (€ 3,841.60).
