Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2016 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait Of The Reverend Thomas D'Oyly With His Wife, Henrietta Maria, Full-Length In An Interior by Arthur Devis for USD 60,000.00 (€ 55,391.43). This price was achieved in the auction The Collection of A. Alfred Taubman: Old Masters at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00 set by the auction house. Other works by Arthur Devis have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in June 2004 by the work Portrait of Thomas Bateman Lane (b. 1735), small full-length, in a grey suit with a blue waistcoat, holding a tricorn in his left hand, leaning on a tree stump, in a river landscape with the sea beyond at GBP 53,775.00 (€ 80,033.31).
