Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2012 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale, which included the work Portrait Of Richard Beard Streatfield Of Copford Lichfield, Staffordshire (1705-1770), With A View Of Table Bay, Cape Town Beyond by Arthur Devis. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 42,050.00 (€ 53,560.40) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Arthur Devis have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in June 2004 the work Portrait of Thomas Bateman Lane (b. 1735), small full-length, in a grey suit with a blue waistcoat, holding a tricorn in his left hand, leaning on a tree stump, in a river landscape with the sea beyond was auctioned for GBP 53,775.00 (€ 80,033.31).
