Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2013 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of A Lady, Seated At A Harpsichord, Possibly Lucy, Duchess Of St. Albans (D. 1752) by Arthur Devis. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,325.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Arthur Devis have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Thomas Bateman Lane (b. 1735), small full-length, in a grey suit with a blue waistcoat, holding a tricorn in his left hand, leaning on a tree stump, in a river landscape with the sea beyond in June 2004 with an auction result of GBP 53,775.00 (€ 80,033.31).
