Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2008 Christies in London held the auction Russian Pictures Including Post-War and Contemporary Art Part II, which included the work Stage design for Rimskii-Korsakov's opera The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh by Apollinari Mikhailovich Vasnetsov. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 23,750.00 (€ 28,715.53), 19% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Apollinari Mikhailovich Vasnetsov achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Old Veliky Novgorod in November 2017 with an auction result of GBP 848,750.00 (€ 963,457.51).
