This price was achieved in the auction Old Master Drawings at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 9,000.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Anton Raphael Mengs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle in July last year with an auction result of GBP 475,000.00 (€ 567,234.37).
