The work The Holy Family with Saint Elizabeth, the infant Saint John the Baptist and two angels, in a landscape by Anton Raphael Mengs was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2021. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 100,800.00 (€ 118,208.90), 44% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Anton Raphael Mengs have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle in July last year with an auction result of GBP 475,000.00 (€ 567,234.37).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 44 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit The Holy Family with Saint Elizabeth, the infant Saint John the Baptist and two angels, in a landscape von Anton Raphael Mengs wurde im Juli 2021 in der Auktion Old Masters Day Sale bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 100.800,00 (€ 118.208,90) und damit 44% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Anton Raphael Mengs auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle im Juli letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 475.000,00 (€ 567.234,37).
