Auction result well in line with expectations
In September last year Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts held the auction Prints & Photographs, which included the work Mao by Andy Warhol. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 53,295.00 (€ 54,477.15) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andy Warhol achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shot Sage Blue Marilyn in May last year with an auction result of USD 195,040,000.00 (€ 181,753,797.41).
