Auction result misses estimated price range
In December this year a collector was able to acquire the work A Dutch merchant in rough seas off a headland by Andries van Eertvelt for GBP 1,512.00 (€ 1,741.77). This price was achieved in the auction Old Masters Part II: Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings and Watercolours at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andries van Eertvelt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Battle Of Lepanto Of 1571 in May 2010 with an auction result of EUR 168,750.00.
