Ignazio cola Mad.a et altri santi piccolo’. | A French Marshal, by 1770 (according to an old inscription on the reverse). | Private collection, Ireland, where purchased by Brian Sewell, by the early 1960s.

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Andrea Sacchi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2016. In the Brian Sewell - Critic & Collector auction, the work The Madonna and Child with Saints Ignatius of Loyola, Francis Xavier, Cosmas and Damian - a bozzetto sold for GBP 233,000.00 (€ 269,842.94) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Andrea Sacchi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot An Allegory Of Rome sold at auction in July 2019 with the realized price of GBP 447,000.00 (€ 490,776.28).
