Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2001 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of a Man with Red Beard Holding a Book, "Josephus" by Ammi Phillips for USD 3,525.00 (€ 3,787.06). This price was achieved in the auction AMERICAN FOLK ART: THE COLLECTION OF KENDRA & ALLAN DANIEL at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 6,000.00 – 9,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ammi Phillips achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a Young Girl and her Cat in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 1,248,000.00 (€ 960,147.72).
