Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Crucifixion, With Scenes From The Passion Beyond by Ambrosius Benson was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2015. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 112,500.00 (€ 159,487.21) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ambrosius Benson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mary Magdalene holding an ointment jar in January last year with an auction result of USD 1,956,000.00 (€ 1,744,559.40).
