Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2020 Bonhams in London held the auction Old Master Paintings Part II, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in fur-trimmed robes, holding a letter by Ambrosius Benson. The price achieved of GBP 81,312.50 (€ 90,697.90) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 70,000.00 – 100,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ambrosius Benson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mary Magdalene holding an ointment jar in January last year with an auction result of USD 1,956,000.00 (€ 1,744,559.40).
