Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Ambrosius Benson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2018. In the Old Masters Evening Sale auction, the work Mary Magdalene Reading sold for GBP 730,000.00 (€ 813,284.74) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ambrosius Benson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Mary Magdalene holding an ointment jar, which sold at auction in January last year for USD 1,956,000.00 (€ 1,744,559.40).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Ambrosius Benson erzielte im Dezember 2018 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale wurde die Arbeit Mary Magdalene Reading für GBP 730.000,00 (€ 813.284,74) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 300.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Ambrosius Benson mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Mary Magdalene holding an ointment jar beobachtet, die im Januar letzten Jahres für USD 1.956.000,00 (€ 1.744.559,40) versteigert wurde.
