Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2015 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait Of Jean Wyts, Watergraaf Of Mechelen (D. 1533), Half-Length, In A Cap And Fur-Trimmed Jacket, Holding A Rod Of Office In His Left Hand by Ambrosius Benson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 120,000.00 – 180,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 134,500.00 (€ 182,644.53) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Ambrosius Benson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Mary Magdalene holding an ointment jar in January last year with an auction result of USD 1,956,000.00 (€ 1,744,559.40).
