Paul I (1754-1801), Emperor of Russia and his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna (1759-1828); he, in red coat with silver-figured border, embroidered gold waistcoat and lace cravat, black hat under his left arm, powdered hair en queue, wearing the blue moiré sash and badge of the Russian Order of St. Andrew; and she, in lace-bordered orange dress with lace cuffs, green bow at corsage, thin black ribbon choker, elaborate drop pearl pendants suspended on pearl necklaces in her powdered and curled upswept hair adorned with white, pink and black plumes, wearing the red sash and breast star of the Russian Order of St. Catherine
