In September 2000 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PICTURES, which included the work At the hearthside by Alfred Provis. The price achieved of GBP 4,112.50 (€ 6,881.47) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, At the hearthside is the most expensive artwork by Alfred Provis that we have observed at auctions so far.
