Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL DRAWINGS AND WATERCOLOURS AND ILLUST, which included the work Figures before an Irish post office by Alfred Downing Fripp. The price achieved of GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,919.79) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Alfred Downing Fripp - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Pompeii, Italy, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 2,868.00 (€ 4,117.06).
