This artwork by Alessandro Turchi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2011. In the Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale auction, the work Philosophy, History And Prudence Awakening The Mind To A Desire For Knowledge sold for GBP 157,250.00 (€ 180,467.90) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 60,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alessandro Turchi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Communion of the Magdalene sold at auction in June last year with the realized price of USD 327,600.00 (€ 312,923.87).
