Despite a disappointment, a good price for Aert de Gelder
In January this year a collector was able to acquire the work Esther at her toilet by Aert de Gelder for USD 882,000.00 (€ 812,304.29). This price was achieved in the auction Remastered: Old Masters from the Collection of J.E. Safra - Selling Without Reserve at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Esther at her toilet is the most expensive artwork by Aert de Gelder that we have observed at auction so far.
