Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2006 a collector was able to acquire the work Running down the Channel at dusk by Adolphus Knell for GBP 108.00 (€ 158.30). This price was achieved in the auction British and Continental Pictures and Watercolours at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Adolphus Knell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A fresh breeze in the Channel; and Evening after a squall off the Cornish coast in May 2001 with an auction result of GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,864.61).
