Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A young woman, small half-length, in a brown dress with a red mantle, a rose in her right hand by Abraham van Dijck was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23,000.00 (€ 23,572.82). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Abraham van Dijck - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Lady, Half-Length, In A Black Dress And Red Shawl, Holding A Flower, which sold at auction in December 2007 for GBP 54,500.00 (€ 74,056.26).
