This is the 163rd time that The Society of Women Artists has presented outstanding works of art by female artists. The show has been held almost every year since it was founded in 1855. Back then, female artists who were denied exhibition opportunities in a male-dominated society, or who had difficulties accessing them, founded the Society of Women Artists and created their own exhibition spaces. In 2024, over 450 works will be presented at the Mall Galleries in London, including paintings, watercolors, lithographs, sculptures and ceramics. The spectrum ranges from traditional to quirky works of art. Members and non-members of the Society of Women Artists are represented in the show.

Among the exhibiting artists is Gina Parr, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program. The artist, who lives in London and Devon, is a painter and photographer and works with experiences from her own life. Parr explores universal themes such as joy, suffering, love and loss against the backdrop of her biography, creating images of human existence that move between abstraction and figuration. Complex, sometimes contradictory feelings about the same experience find a pictorial representation in Parr's work.

In the Society of Women Artists exhibition, she is showing two works from the Love or Money series, about which Parr says: »Love or Money explores legacy. The deep connection with nature that I inherited from my father before he died at the early age of 52, whilst also considering inheritance in financial terms and the fact that lost love is sometimes uncomfortably replaced with financial gain.«Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
