The Millions and Millions of Views of a Freedom-Loving Dada Icon
Between 16 February and 15 May, the Bröhan Museum in Berlin-Charlottenburg is showing Hannah Höch. Abermillionen Anschauungen (Millions and Millions of Views), the Bröhan Museum in Berlin-Charlottenburg is showing over 120 works by an unforgotten Dada icon. A central point here is Höch's artistic freedom, which she herself lived out quite bluntly in her capricious changes of style and media.
From 16 February, the Bröhan Museum in Berlin-Charlottenburg will be dedicating itself to a true Dada icon. With Hannah Höch. Abermillionen Anschauungen (Millions and Millions of Views), it is showing over 120 works by the artist Hannah Höch (1889-1978), some of which have never been seen before. The museum does not omit any creative phase and takes a close look at the entire spectrum of her contradictory oeuvre.
The exhibition title Abermillionen Anschauungen (Millions and Millions of Views) originates from a poem by Höch and thus follows precisely the intentions that the artist always had with her work: to achieve an almost infinite variety of views. Höch became known above all for her socially critical and political photo collages. Hardly anyone, however, knows her paintings and poster designs, let alone her pieces freely combined from both disciplines. At the centre of her creative work was artistic freedom and diversity, which she never allowed herself to be deprived of and for which, according to the organisers, she switched »across all ideological divides between artistic styles depending on the theme«. Those interested have until 15 May to view the exhibition on Hannah Höch's boundless freedom of style and media.
With the exhibition Hanns Kunitzberger: Likeness 2002-2005, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is presenting the multi-part work of the same name by the Austrian artist. The multi-layered, abstract paintings have a magnetic effect on viewers. The exhibition opens on November 29.
In a major exhibition with over 150 exhibits, the Tate Modern sheds light on the beginnings of optical, kinetic and digital art. From November 28, the works of numerous renowned artists will be on display in Electric Dreams: Art and Technology Before the Internet in London.
