»reIMAGINEd«: Art provides new impetus

The art exhibition reIMAGINEd: Beyond the Ordinary can be seen at the Hamburg University of Technology until March 30. It is a mouthpiece for relevant topics that deserve a broader discussion. Among the exhibiting artists is Maik Buttler, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program.

People are surrounded by a flood of images, news, advertising, lifestyle magazines... but on closer inspection, the variety of topics is less than it seems. This is where the art exhibition reIMAGINEd. Beyond the Ordinary comes in: Selected artists present their works that deal with relevant topics that are less in focus. They give modern man, who is in danger of losing himself, a foothold: an opportunity for reflection and reorientation. The exhibition was curated by Zahra Hasson-Taheri and runs until March 30 in the main building of the Hamburg University of Technology. Changing exhibitions have been held there since 2012 as part of an art initiative.

Also on display are 15 works by the artist Maik Buttler, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program. Buttler explores the basis of human existence and examines what defines people, their basic needs in life and structures of action, which have remained fundamentally unchanged for thousands of years: Finding refuge in a world of constant change, challenges and also existential conditions, catastrophes. In his series of works EVOLUTION, PASSAGES and CORPUS, Buttler explores organic structures, including people and their bodies in space, uncovering what lies hidden beneath surfaces. He is influenced by his experience as an architect, always looking behind the facades. »For me, art means both survival aid and permanent questioning«, says Buttler about his artistic work.Art.Salon

First bronze sculptures by Mathias Kadolph

The lively, dynamic and concentrated formal language of sculptor Mathias Kadolph has so far manifested itself primarily through his material, wood. Now, for the first time, he has had miniatures cast in bronze in an edition of twelve sculptures each. These convey essential impressions of his formal ideas and open up to new impulses for our perception.
