More than 175 galleries from 24 countries are presenting current positions at ART COLOGNE this year. The NEUMARKT section, in which galleries under the age of 13 exhibit, is particularly popular and has grown: 26 young galleries are showing innovative art with its finger on the pulse of time. Six of these are newcomers whose stands are marked by a white carpet. ART COLOGNE will also feature shooting stars of the art scene such as Melike Kara (*1985), whose works include sculptures, photo collages and paintings. Her exploration of the visual culture of the Kurdish diaspora is closely linked to her family history and also draws on traditional patterns from tapestries. Kara is represented by Galerie Jan Kaps.
ART COLOGNE opens on November 7 for invited guests, the public days are from November 8 to 10.
Another special feature of the fair is the ART + OBJECT section, which took place for the first time in 2022. The emerging and possibly future-oriented dissolution of boundaries between visual, functional and ritual art is the focus here, but the trends can already be felt in other areas of the fair. A total of nine galleries will be showing, among other things, textile art from the 15th century, contemporary South African textile sculptures and historical ceramics.
On Friday, November 8, the Art COLOGNE Prize for Art Education will be awarded at 10 am in Cologne's Historic City Hall. This year's award, worth 10,000 euros, goes to Christian and Karen Boros, who run a private museum in the Reichsbahnbunker Friedrichstraße in Berlin. On the same day, they will take part in a public discussion during the ARTtalks at 4 pm.
