Artist Every Ocean Hughes approaches volatile or upsetting subjects with humour and intimacy. In Every Ocean Hughes: Alive Side, she works through family relationships, inheritances and queer identities. The exhibition is on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York from 14 January.

In a way, Every Ocean Hughes (*1977) stands for the boundlessness of art. The US artist expresses herself through performance, photography, printmaking, text, video and musicals. She also sees her work as a curator as part of her artistic expression. The exhibition Every Ocean Hughes: Alive Side at New York's Whitney Museum of American Art presents her work that explores kinship, heritage and queer identities. From 14 January to 2 April, visitors can look forward to a diversity of media infused with humour and intimacy.

Artist Hughes was born Emily Roysdon. She lives in New York and Stockholm, where she has held a professorship at Konstfack since 2013. In 2002, Hughes co-founded the queer artist collective Lesbians To The Rescue (LTTR), which participated in documenta 12 in 2007.Art.Salon
